Flickr Reference - wah hoo!

GaimI chose to go power-point-free, seat-of-the-pants-live-demo for yesterday’s presentation, nevertheless I felt especially important for them to see a good example of Gaim to really show it off. So, at the right moment, I took the perfect Gaim money shot. It turns out I didn’t need the image, but I was excited by the comment I found when I returned home:

how can u sign into gaim, i used the password for msn and for aim, and it woulddn’t work? i also made sure and writing the correct password under the right username too? i need help please??

***A Flickr reference question!***

If that’s not a strong argument for us being out there on these tools, I don’t know what is. It seems to me that social software is allowing users to ask eachother questions instead of us. And in order to reach them, we have to be in these spaces.

Woot! A real live example to go with Karen Schneider’s “The User Is Not Broken” meme/manifesto:

Meet people where they are–not where you want them to be.

The user is not “remote.” You, the librarian, are remote, and it is your job to close that gap.

People are asking questions, are we ready to serve?
