It takes glasses - both kinds - to be a librarian
More library professionals should conduct their business meetings in crowded, mid-week bars. Extra points for community participation, if it’s in a small state capital on pub quiz night. Super duper points for not participating, but sitting in the middle of the fray with your open laptop and exposing yourself to heckling from other teams.
Seriously, though, this was community at its very best. People working together on teams - having fun - expanding their experience - and doing it all in their own home towns. Should libraries start hosting quiz nights? It could be fun… although it might lack the accustomed joy and atmosphere.
For the record, The Barley House has excellent sangria and an endlessly patient waitstaff. We begged off participating in the quiz, because two librarians have an unfair advantage, right (and hate to appear foolish even more)? Actually, the only question we got was “What does ‘http’ stand for?”… so it’s tougher trivia than you think. Say ‘hi’ to Deb, the quiz-maven… she’s a firecracker.
