The Future of Evil is Manipulating Information
Nabil makes a good point over at Wandering Ways about disillusionment and still voting anyway. Reason or not, we’ve come to mistrust authorities. (It’s the grain of truth that makes this scary… and funny).
There’s a tension happening in our DIY world. Yes, we want our information the way we want it; yes, we want to participate in its creation… maybe we don’t mind trading a little accuracy and exhaustivity to get what we want.
It reminds me somehow of the differences between user-tagging and more rigid taxonomies. Both have their value and can complement eachother. Perhaps this is the essential role libraries can play “among all the robots running amok”. We do not have split alliances. Folks trust us and know where we stand. Here our stodgy, old-skool image might just win us some credibility, if we can interact in it appropriately.
