Art finally makes it

Unravelling Dress

Congratulations are in order for Etsy and their entry into the big time. My mom’s a brilliant artist, with a number of brilliant artist friends, and there was a time, a few years back when one of my own friends and I hatched an Etsy-like scheme of our own. We got pretty far into the planning before I realized that I couldn’t do that and be a librarian, so we ditched. But I’m thrilled someone else followed through and it worked!

I was introduced to Etsy when a friend overseas was learning to knit and found Naughty Needles. It thrilled my counter-culture, retro, saucy soul down to the toetips. A little digging and found that its fabulous author, Nikol Lohr, blogs brilliantly. I’ve been stuck to it ever since.

Reasons to think this woman is pretty darn neato (in no particular order):

- She dyes her own wool and sells it on Etsy - those who know the origins of my name will understand why this delights me.

- Of all the wordpress themes out there, hers and mine are share ancestry, girls do suck.

- She co-founded the Harveyville Project, an artist retreat housed in a collection of old school buildings. School buildings in which I’ve firmly resolved to reside someday.

- They recently hosted a prom.

- She’s been scrambling lately to get things in line for the upcoming Naughty Needles Burlesque on July 13 at Jackpot in Lawrence, KS

I’m a bit amazed to hear myself saying it, but anyone want to meet me in Kansas?
