I'm back

2005 May 18

Sorry for the haitus. I had intended to put up a message but things got hairy near the end. I have just spent a week vacationing in Portland, Oregon- first time spending any real time in that part of the country and I found it delightful. I anticipated doing a lot of thinking about library technologies, but I didn't manage it. So, I'll return with a lighter story.

I was there to visit my younger brother and attend his graduation from Reed College. While on a tour of campus I needed (yes, NEEDED) to check my email so Joe jotted down his username and password for me to get onto the school's network. In a fit of wickedness, I approached the reference desk and asked where the public access computers were. The librarian literally peered down her nose and through the glasses perched on the end and asked if I was a student at Reed. I said that I was and she directed me to a bank of computers. Now you know that somewhere in NorthWest Oregon, there's a librarian scandalized that a student (looking older than most but stunning all the same, of course) hadn't visited the library until the beginning of May. Tee hee…. cruel, aren't I?
