Cleaning house
Today I'm cleaning my desk and going through my notebooks to get ready for summer projects, I've run across a few quotes I'd like to keep in mind as I work to develop a user interface for our online services:
1. “Face validity” Having a snazzy, well designed, carefully maintained website achieves 'face validity' and inspires confidence in the information it contains and the services (real people) it represents.
2. “[Librarians] preoccupation with reliability of information retrieval, doesn't translate into social consensus.” I've posted about this before, there's a disconnect between librarians' information-goals and those of patrons- one that we have to look at if we really want to provide user-centered services. (Quote from Grant Campbell”)
3. “Designing for the novice rarely hampers the expert.” (Darlene Fichter on the usability4lib listserv)
