Podiobooks… Yay!
Library Web Chic posted on Audiobooks on mp3 players and how libraries could get in on this grooovy new thing. The private sector is obviously doing this already, some for free, but she makes great points about how libraries could fill a gap. People are already doing this! They're paying tons of money to company's for their poddy books… OR, *gasp* they're stealing them, breaking copyright laws. We, as libraries, should be all over providing these for free- fits right in with our traditional roles, AND providing them legally so that the content generators (authors? creators?) get their just desserts and go right on generating that content that they do so well.
So, to all the librarians out there- DO THIS! Look into it! It's easy to implement…. I'll help.
::Insert:: Here, look, same day, Jenny Levine posted on an Audio EBook offer for libraries. Attention public librarians (MOM, are you listening?) AND state librarians too (NHSL, are you listening?) this would be an awesome service for the state library to provide to the smaller, rural libraries. ::
