Hurricane Libraries

All prayers and wishes to the museums, archives, and libraries affected by the hurricane. I can't begin to imagine how the losses, large and small, will emerge in the coming days. Jobs, collections, facilities… I wonder if there could be a program established for librarians in other parts of the country to travel South to assist with the recovery or whatever? I'd rather fund that for staff than any stuffy old conference.

::edit:: On Web4Lib this afternoon, there's a need for housing for displaced librarians and their families down south. There is an organization organizing library recovery efforts: Geaux Library Recovery. Way to go, my chosen profession, for being so quick to react… not that I'm surprised in the least. I'll continue to update this page as I hear of other efforts.

Also, you can make donations to the Louisiana State Library. Make checks to: Louisiana Library Foundation, POBox 2583, Baton Rouge LA, 70821

One more, since shelters are filling up, there's a plea out for emergency housing: http://www.hurricanehousing.org Not specifically library related, but doesn't hurt, right?

The Middletown Thrall Library has put up a Hurricane Katrina web guide: http://www.thrall.org/katrina
