Interoperability in Library Systems
This is the presentation that's going to solve all my problems and make my day-to-day job easier…
They're (Karen Coombs and Amanda Hollister from SUNY Cortland) talking about making different systems play nice, like: ILLiad, SFX, OPAC, EZProxy… This is what I want to do too… “If the users could just take some of the data from these systems and encorporating them into our site.” ME TOO….
Their possible solutions that might work for me: XML, federated search (this might be coming anyway), ODBC connections (I do this a bit already). List of look stuff (they're first stop and mine too… YAY): Consistent navigation elements, CSS, Server Side Includes, Branding, include both print and web documents… I do this too- yay! Again, I'm on the right track. I do need to learn more about successfully printing webpages… this is important. Although, this is where it stops - what's next for me? How can I do this more efficiently AND integrated better with our OPAC and SFX and any other incoming new software. Wow, she's going further into what she's done and I've done most of it too… infact, if I were to be giving this presentation, it would be almost verbatim… how fantasticly vindicative.
I need to work harder on getting my interfaces AND back-end much tighter…
