I poked my head out of budget season tonight and was proud to encounter cool things coming out of two state library systems near and dear to my heart. Bobbi Slossar, of whom NHSL should be extraordinarily proud, responds to the LOC’s Flickr initiative.* From Bobbi:
This seems like a good time to [...]

Things got a bit mixed up because the keynote speaker had travel trouble, but that meant that I got to have a very nice chat with some folks from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. Again, it’s incredible to me how far off the radar libraries are. Here is an organization in the business [...]

Last week Nabil alerted me to the forward thinking, proactive outreach campaign of the Portland area libraries. This week, I’m in the pacific northwest and spotted a fine example of my own in traffic on SE 39th St from the Multnomah County Library. Well done!

While the social tools libraries might use to reach their online users are free, they still represent an investment and should be treated as such. It’s an investment of time and attention instead of money. I was pleased to find that Darlene Fichter make a similar point (much more elegantly than me, I [...]

With things like this video in the world, how can a girl resist another casual friday? Indeed, I might have to become a regular after all.

YaleSchmale - Wednesday, August 30th, 2006
I’m a fan of anything that cleverly pokes fun at the current administration - but this advertisment for Lakehead University is more than just that. The URL, yaleschmale.com has no apparent agenda or affiliation and the opening page shows only a stylized George W followed by the words:
Graduating from an Ivy League university doesn’t [...]

I’m ridiculously proud that both my NH hometown libraries sport blogs - among the first blogging libraries in the state. And these librarians really get it! Madison Library (where I grew up) blogs about their Summer Reading Program treasure hunt and their summertime raffle. The library’s director, Mary Cronin, seems to do [...]

READ posters - Friday, March 31st, 2006
I haven’t contributed anything myself, but I love the idea of making your own ALA-esque READ posters. I think it could be awesome community outreach… cheap too. Take photos at your next program, community event OR local school (be sure to Flickr them) and make them into READ posters… put them on [...]
