Pride or Look What My Mommy Made - Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

On a school trip when I was in elementary school we started at a brook that ran into town, climbed through the culvert under the road, and into the woods following the water up the mountain. It was spring, just before school let out and the water was cold, but it was fun. [...]

Our town - Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

In September I met the Library Director of the Effingham Public Library along with a board member-slash-web master. They asked me if I’d be willing to help them create a more dynamic and easier to maintain web presence. Naturally I enthusiastically agreed. Both of them had immediately grokked the opportunities that [...]

Librarians, Shusshers, and Patrons - Thursday, November 29th, 2007

When I got my new job, I searched on Flickr to find photos to illustrate my celebratory blog post. And then, when I arrived, I set up a Flickr account for the library to which I’ve been adding photos and made some awesome contacts with local Flickrers. Yesterday the librarian who’s responsible [...]

Will they come? - Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

It seems strange to me that there isn’t a super slick solution for calendaring/events management tasks within Wordpress. When we first developed the Tamworth Library site we used (correct me if I’m wrong) phpiCalendar and Google Calendar. The library’s Children’s Librarian would login into their Events Google Calendar and enter upcoming events [...]

Librarians in the wild - Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Tonight I am scheduled to give an introduction to Web 2.0 to the Tamworth Library Friends group. Tamworth has been so good to me, giving me a chance to test Scriblio, so I was excited to talk to them. I didn’t even know it was open to the public until my phone rang [...]

Everything you ever wanted to know… - Monday, September 24th, 2007

I was thrilled today to join the admirable ranks of Jessamyn and Andrea to offer a Web 2.0 smorgasbord to NH librarians.
My Web 2.SO? or Why Libraries Should Care, repurposed from BIGWIG, served as the day’s introduction. Jessamyn then offered a practical introduction to Flickr and del.icio.us. She even inspired me to [...]

Snow in July - Saturday, July 28th, 2007

This week the lucky children of Madison made snowglobes as a Summer Reading Program activity. But not just any snow globe, oh no, a snowglobe to showcase our beloved Madison Boulder. Civic pride swells.

They used crushed egg shells to make the snow! What a terrifically fun idea!

Keynote: Katya Andresen of Network for Good - Monday, June 11th, 2007

Things got a bit mixed up because the keynote speaker had travel trouble, but that meant that I got to have a very nice chat with some folks from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. Again, it’s incredible to me how far off the radar libraries are. Here is an organization in the business [...]

This is a vendor demo. They’re out of Portsmouth, NH, which is kind of cool.

Assessing Technology Needs and Creating a Technology Plan for Non-Profits - Monday, June 11th, 2007

First session: Assessing Technology Needs and Creating a Technology Plan for Non-Profits by MJ Shoer, President of Jenaly Technology Group, Inc.
As I continue to work with libraries implementing Scriblio, I thought it would be helpful to know how to give libraries advice on how to think about their technology plans.
Do we even know what we [...]
